About the Workshop

Knowledge about Ethics in academic writing and avoidance of plagiarism are of utmost importance to librarians as they are put in charge of checking plagiarism of doctoral theses and master’s dissertations in most of the colleges. Hence, CHMK Library takes up the challenge of giving practical exposure to the College Librarians in checking plagiarism using plagiarism detection software and avoiding plagiarism in academic writing. The Workshop is intended to train the College Librarians in detecting plagiarism using Urkund Software.

Objectives of the Workshop

  • 1. To give awareness to College Librarians about ethics in academic writing.
  • 2. To give practical exposure to the College Librarians in using plagiarism detection software Urkund.

Who can Participate?

College Librarians who are interested in plagiarism and academic ethics can participate in the Workshop.

Rs. 500 per participant (The registration fee will cover the working lunch, light refreshment and workshop kit).

One day training programme on IN-TEXT CITATION AND REFERENCING PATTERN

C. H. Mohammed Koya Library, University of Calicut is organising a one day  training programme on IN-TEXT CITATION AND REFERENCING PATTERN for the University Students and Research Scholars on 24th July 2019.

Objectives of the Programme

1. To train the students and Research Scholars in giving citations in the APA Style.

2. To introduce to them the Reference Management Software ‘Mendeley’ for managing references.

Maximum Intake

The maximum intake is limited to 40.

The aspiring Students and Research Scholars have to register online.  The selection will be on first come first served basis.  There is no spot registration for the programme.  No Registration Fee is charged.

Session IX : Reference Tools by Mrs. Sreelatha  K.
In this session Mrs. Sreelatha introduced Mendeley - a useful reference tool. In this practical session she explained the features of Mendeley and explained the steps  to install it.

Session VIII : Plagiarism : Issues and Solutions



Session VIII : Plagiarism : Issues and Solutions by Dr. Vinod V. M.

Dr. Vinod explained the different types of plagiarism with the help of interesting images. He introduced URKUND software which is used for checking plagiarism at CHMK Library, University of Calicut.



Session VII : Structure of a Research Paper by Mr. Nasrudheen T.

Mr. Nasrudheen described the essential structure of a research paper. He also explained the commonly occurring mistakes that are to be avoided in each part. He gave an outline of different writing styles in research papers.


Session VI : Online Data Collection by Dr. Dineshan Koovakkai
In this highly interactive session Dr. Dineshan Koovakkai presented a detailed account of online data collection using Google Forms. He also introduced Google Docs.

Session V : Online Resources for Writing Research Papers by Dr. Muhammed Salih T. K.

Dr. Muhammed Salih discussed  various  resources available online for scholarly publication.  He also introduced Emerald, Web of Science, J Gate etc. He suggested Grammarly for better writing.



Session IV : Selection of Topic for Publication by Dr. Dineshan Koovakkai

In this session Dr. Dinession Koovakkai gave a brief outline about selection of topic for publication and pointed out the precautions to be taken at the time of problem selection. He helped the 21 participants to select their topic for writing articles for publication.

Session I : Librarians as Academic Staff by Dr. Abdul Azeez T. A.

Dr. Abdul Azeez T. A. spoke on the academic status of librarians. He presented the details of the recommendations of various UGC Committees. He also explained the qualification requirements for various library positions as per UGC rules.

Session II : Components of API Scores by Dr. Abdul Azeez T. A.

Dr. Abdul Azeez gave an outline of Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS) and discussed in detail the components of API scores. He also explained the tips for acquiring the required API scores for librarians.


Session III : UGC Regulations and Librarians by Dr. Dineshan Koovakkai

Dr. Dineshan Koovakkai introduced UGC regulation 2010 and its amendments during the years 2011, 2013 and 2016 and the UGC Regulation 2018. He also presented the details of MOOC Courses in Library and Information Science available through SWAYAM.
